Pork & Apple Sausage Rolls
Who doesn’t love a sausage roll? They’re the ultimate crowd-pleaser, whether you’re headed to a Christmas party or a school class celebration. These pork and apple sausage rolls take things to the next level with a mouthwatering combo of juicy, flavourful filling and perfectly crispy, golden pastry. Bonus: they’re so irresistibly good, you’ll want to make extra to pop into the kids' lunchboxes the next day! Let’s roll up our sleeves and get baking!
Ingredients
- 500g pork mince
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 green apple grated
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 1 tbsp onion powder
- 1 tbsp dried thyme
- 2 eggs
- Salt & pepper
- 3 sheets puff pastry
- Sesame seeds for topping
- Tomato chutney to serve
Method:
- Preheat oven to 200ºC and line a flat tray with baking paper.
- In a large bowl combine pork mince, breadcrumbs, grated apple, garlic, onion powder, thyme and 1 of the eggs. Season with salt and pepper and mix well either with wooden spoon or clean hands.
- Allow puff pastry sheets to defrost slightly then cut each sheet in half. Add spoonful’s of filling mixture to each sheet and shape into long logs making sure mixture is compact.
- Lightly beat remaining egg and brush one edge of each pastry sheet. Roll pastry over filling with the seam side down to create the sausage rolls.
- Transfer over to the lined baking tray and cut into desired length. Brush with remaining egg mixture and sprinkle over sesame seeds.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and serve with tomato chutney.
Notes:
- Perfect for Christmas party, function or as a tasty treat in a lunchbox.
- Be creative with seasoning and add different herbs like parsley, oregano or rosemary.
- These can be frozen once rolled and baked in a hot oven before serving.
